Meet Lisa

Not a politician. A public servant.

Lisa spent 24 years in the Army as a Military Police and Logistics officer. Then she spent 10 more years helping young adults leave prison and build new lives here in Sumter, Lee, and Clarendon counties.

She knows how to lead. She knows how to listen. And she knows how to get real results for real people.

About Lisa

A lifetime of service.

Soldier. Mentor. Neighbor. Here is the story of the woman running to give Sumter a new voice.

Major Lisa Davey served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. She was a Military Police officer and a Logistics officer. She is a combat veteran.

After the Army, Lisa kept serving. For 10 years, she worked with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. She helped young adults coming home from prison find school, jobs, drug treatment, and mental health care. Most of them stayed out of trouble and became good neighbors in Sumter, Lee, and Clarendon counties.

Lisa also worked for the Sumter Police Department as a Digital Forensic Analyst. She managed the 911 changeover for the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Lisa was born during the fight for civil rights and women's rights. The leaders of that time shaped her. They passed laws that protect everyone equally. Today, she sees lawmakers trying to take those rights away. That is why she is running.

Lisa is not a politician. She is running to give the people of Sumter a real voice in Columbia. She wants to fix the problems our leaders have ignored for decades: crime, schools, and unsafe roads.

Lisa is married to Colonel Michael Davey (U.S. Army, Retired). Their son, Brandon, has joined the Navy to become a submariner, just like Lisa's late father, Jerry Richards. Serving runs in the family.

Public safety

Safer streets for every family.

42ndSouth Carolina's national rank in crime and corrections. It has barely changed in decades.

Stopping crime starts long before an arrest. Kids need good schools, after-school programs, and mentors. Families need access to mental health care and drug treatment. When we help early, fewer young people end up in prison, and taxpayers save money.

The problem

  • Our crime ranking has been stuck near the bottom for decades.
  • Police departments struggle to keep and hire good officers.
  • South Carolina is one of only a few states with no hate crime law.

Lisa will fight to

  • Use state money to raise police pay and fund training.
  • Give officers better technology to respond fast.
  • Pass a hate crime law in South Carolina.
  • Fund Veterans Courts, Treatment Courts, and diversion programs.
  • Crack down on gangs and organized crime.

Lisa spent 10 years with the Department of Corrections. She saw what a second chance can do. With the right tools, most young adults she worked with became productive members of our community.

Education

Great public schools.

Our teachers work hard. But they don't get the tools they need, and our kids deserve better. Strong schools today mean good jobs and a strong local economy tomorrow.

The problem

  • Teachers are underpaid, so many leave.
  • Some classrooms are too crowded.
  • School buildings are underfunded and falling apart.
  • Private school vouchers take money away from public schools. Our current representative supports them.

Lisa will fight to

  • Pay teachers and school staff fairly.
  • Make class sizes smaller.
  • Fix and update school buildings.
  • Keep public money in public schools. No state money for private school vouchers.
  • Prepare students for well-paying jobs right here at home.
Personal freedom

Your body. Your choice.

S. 323A Senate bill that would make it a crime for women and their doctors to make private health decisions.

Lisa believes a woman should make decisions about her own body with her doctor. The government should not be in the exam room.

The problem

  • Bills like S. 323 and H. 3457 would take away a woman's right to choose.
  • They would punish women, the people who help them, and their doctors.
  • Our current representative supports these bills.

Lisa will fight to

  • Stop S. 323 from becoming law.
  • Protect safe, legal health care.
  • Keep these choices between a woman and her doctor.
Gun safety

Respect the 2nd Amendment. Keep families safe.

Lisa is a hunter. She supports the right to own a gun. She also believes in common sense steps to stop the mass shootings we keep seeing across the country.

What Lisa believes

  • Law-abiding people have the right to bear arms.
  • Guns should be kept away from young people and from people in a mental health crisis.

Lisa will fight to

  • Add a waiting period between buying a gun and taking it home.
  • Limit gun access for people with a history of mental health crisis.
  • Repeal South Carolina's open carry law.
Infrastructure

Roads and bridges you can count on.

Every family deserves safe roads, strong bridges, clean water, and fast internet. Too many roads and bridges have failed while lawmakers spent over $1 billion on highway exits for big companies.

The problem

  • Failing roads and bridges put drivers at risk.
  • Many homes still lack reliable internet.
  • Tax dollars go to corporate projects first.

Lisa will fight to

  • Speed up bridge repairs.
  • Create a steady state fund for roads and bridges.
  • Use federal dollars wisely to stretch every tax dollar.
  • Bring clean water and broadband to every community.
Accountability

Government that works for you.

Lisa will fight for more openness and oversight in Columbia. The people, not special interests, should come first in every decision.
